The essence of all art is to have pleasure in giving pleasure.
I was riding in the car with my husband Dan and his brother Sam. We were talking about wanting to do more with our lives than just pursue money and happiness. We wanted to serve others, but in a creative way. I mentioned that it was on my heart to photograph military homecomings for free. Sam encouraged me and said that I should do that… but I should do it on a large scale! There are a lot of bases out there and a WHOLE lot of homecomings happening all over. Why not spread the net wide? I came up with the idea to create a network of photographers that would all photograph homecomings for free.
This is my Grandfather, George "Tommy" McPhaul, known as "Gramps" to me. He was a life-time military man, serving in both Korea and Vietnam as a Sergeant in the US Army.
He passed away in 2010 and this project is dedicated to him.
Other than our photographers and our families we have a few more parties to thank.
We have SPONSORS who have helped get this party started! Showit donated the website, Sarah made our logo, and Photojojo sponsored our first 100 photographers that signed up.
We have GOOD PEOPLE have donated to our GoFundMe page, which helps us on the back-end keeping up with the tax and legal side of things.
There are three people on our team. I'm the founder and my husband Dan and my friend Gretchen are the other members of the Board.
Besides running Welcome Them Home, Dan and I are the owners of Bethany & Dan Photography. Gretchen is the #girlboss at Gretchen Powers Film and Photo. All of us are working photographers with a heart for the military and we hope that this network will bless the people it touches.
We are Non-profit dedicated to serving our military families, which never gets old when I say it out loud.
